Dental Check-up

A routine check-up is the foundation of good oral health — a full examination of your teeth, gums and mouth to catch small problems, like an early cavity or gum inflammation, before they become painful or costly.

What to expect

  • A visual and physical exam of your teeth, gums, tongue and bite
  • A referral for a dental X-ray elsewhere if the dentist needs to look beneath the surface or between teeth (our on-site X-ray service is coming soon)
  • A short, honest run-through of anything that needs attention, and why
  • A cleaning or referral for scaling if plaque or tartar build-up is found

How to prepare

  • Brush and floss as normal beforehand — there's no need to "get ready" beyond that
  • Note down any sensitivity, pain or changes you've noticed since your last visit
  • Bring a previous dental record if you're visiting us for the first time
Best forEveryone, every 6 months
Duration20–30 minutes
DiscomfortNone to minimal

Dental Filling

When decay has created a cavity, a filling removes the decayed portion of the tooth and seals the space, stopping decay from spreading and restoring the tooth's shape and function.

What to expect

  • The area is numbed with local anaesthetic so the procedure is comfortable
  • Decayed tissue is gently removed and the cavity is cleaned
  • The tooth is filled and shaped so your bite feels natural afterwards

How to prepare

  • Eat a light meal beforehand if the area will be numbed for a while afterwards
  • Mention any allergies to anaesthetic or dental materials

Mild sensitivity to hot or cold for a day or two after a filling is normal — it should settle on its own. Persistent pain is worth a follow-up call.

Scaling & Polishing

Also known as a professional clean, scaling removes hardened plaque (tartar) that brushing alone can't reach, especially along and beneath the gumline — polishing then leaves teeth smooth and reduces new plaque sticking as easily.

What to expect

  • Gentle removal of tartar and stains using specialised instruments
  • A polishing step that smooths the tooth surface
  • Advice on brushing and flossing technique tailored to areas that build up plaque fastest

How to prepare

  • No special preparation needed — just brush normally beforehand
  • Mention if you have sensitive teeth or gums that bleed easily

Tooth Extraction

When a tooth is too damaged, decayed or impacted to save, extraction removes it under local anaesthetic — carefully, and only after alternatives like a filling or root canal have been ruled out.

What to expect

  • Local anaesthetic numbs the tooth and surrounding gum before we begin
  • The tooth is loosened and removed, then the socket is checked and packed if needed
  • Clear aftercare instructions, including what to eat and how to care for the gap while it heals

How to prepare

  • Eat a proper meal beforehand, as chewing on that side will be uncomfortable afterwards
  • Arrange a ride home if you're anxious about the procedure or receive sedation
  • Tell us about any blood thinners or bleeding disorders in advance

After extraction: Avoid rinsing forcefully, using straws, or smoking for 24 hours — this protects the healing blood clot and lowers your risk of a painful "dry socket."

Best forSeverely damaged or impacted teeth
Duration20–60 minutes
HealingInitial healing in ~1–2 weeks

Root Canal Treatment

When decay or injury reaches the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth, root canal treatment removes the infected tissue, cleans the canal, and seals it — saving the natural tooth instead of extracting it.

What to expect

  • The tooth is numbed, then a small opening is made to access the inner canal
  • Infected or damaged pulp tissue is carefully removed and the canal is cleaned and shaped
  • The canal is sealed, and the tooth is usually finished with a filling or crown for strength

How to prepare

  • Take any pain relief as advised if the tooth is uncomfortable beforehand
  • Ask about the number of visits your case may need — some root canals finish in one sitting

Artificial Teeth

Whether you've lost one tooth or several, artificial teeth — dentures, bridges or crowns — restore your bite, your speech and your smile, fitted and adjusted to feel as natural as possible.

What to expect

  • An assessment of the gap, your bite and the surrounding teeth or gum health
  • Impressions or measurements taken to have your replacement teeth custom-made
  • A fitting appointment with adjustments until the fit feels comfortable and natural
  • Guidance on caring for and cleaning your new teeth

How to prepare

  • Be ready to discuss your budget and preferences — options range from a single crown to full dentures
  • Expect more than one visit, since custom pieces need to be made and adjusted
Best forMissing or badly damaged teeth
Visits neededTypically 2–3 appointments
